KUCHING: The conferment of ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star’ from the Government of Japan on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is a significant recognition of Malaysia’s progress in clean and renewable energy.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said the award reflects international acknowledgement of the Premier’s efforts in advancing green energy and positioning Sarawak as a regional leader.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to the Premier on being conferred the award. The Premier deserved that.

“This is not an ordinary award. This is an honour bestowed by a foreign country that recognises him as one of the champions in driving green and clean energy,” he told reporters after officiating the Women of Impact Forum 2025 held at Borneo Cultures Museum today.

He added that Abang Johari’s leadership has not only propelled Sarawak’s green-energy agenda but has also strengthened Malaysia’s standing in the global renewable energy landscape.

“He has become a champion not only for Sarawak but for Malaysia, and is acknowledged internationally. So once again, congratulations and well done. He truly deserved it,” Fadillah said.

On November 3, the Government of Japan conferred ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star’ on Abang Johari in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strengthening Japan-Malaysia relations.

According to the Embassy of Japan, the Premier was among the recipients of the 2025 Autumn Imperial Decorations announced by the Japanese government.
