JAKARTA, Indonesia: The development of Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), in East Kalimantan has the potential to attract increased investment interest from Japan following a recent visit by Japanese business representatives.
Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) head, Basuki Hadimuljono, confirmed that several Japanese firms visited to explore business investment opportunities in Indonesia’s new political capital.
“I hope the visit can later translate into concrete investment realisation in support of IKN’s development,” he told ANTARA News Agency, today (Jan 31).
The visit included the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) and 34 Japanese companies from various sectors, with representatives from government institutions as well as businesses in trade, banking, machinery, electricity, materials, food, and services.
Basuki said OIKN remains committed to fostering collaboration with both national and international partners in developing IKN as Indonesia’s new government centre.
Meanwhile, Shinji Hurai, President Director of JETRO Jakarta, said that the visit was intended to explore business opportunities and strengthen sustainable investment collaboration in IKN.
He also noted that Japanese investors showed significant interest in supporting the development and expansion of IKN, with further in-depth exploration of investment opportunities expected.
OIKN had earlier stated that IKN in East Kalimantan will be ready to function as Indonesia’s political capital in 2028. – BERNAMA
