KUCHING: Members of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Batu Kawa paid a visit to the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex yesterday (May 23) to foster youth engagement in governance.
The delegation was welcomed by Political Secretary to the Premier Kho Teck Wan, who led a tour of the DUN complex and provided an in-depth briefing on the legislative process.
During the visit, Kho explained the structure and function of the state assembly, detailing how bills are proposed, debated, and passed.
She also highlighted the architectural and historical significance of the complex.
“Engaging young leaders in the legislative process is crucial for the future of Sarawak. Their perspectives and energy can drive meaningful change,” Kho said.
The session provided JCI members with first-hand exposure to the formation and implementation of state policies, as part of ongoing efforts to encourage young Sarawakians to take a more active role in civic affairs and community development.
JCI Batu Kawa president Elvis Chong described the visit as an eye-opening experience. “This experience has been invaluable in broadening our perspectives on governance and civic responsibility. We are inspired to contribute more actively to our community and state,” he said
