KUCHING: Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu has announced RM20,000 for Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kuching’s projects.
Officiating at the Kuching JCI’s 70th Installation and Award Banquet at Theatre Hotel here last night (Feb 9), Rentap thanked the organisation for its support during the SUKMA games last year.
He highlighted the importance of having strong foundational values in any organisation and stressed the need for JCI members to translate their mission into real and effective actions on the ground.
“I think the first thing we should have is commitment — commitment to serve and commitment to be the best,” he said.

“Secondly, continuity in leadership is crucial to ensure that good ideas and initiatives are sustained over time. We must persevere in our mission to improve humanity and the community.”
Rentap also emphasised the need for adaptability, noting that embracing change is essential for progress.
“What we did yesterday cannot be the same as what we do today or tomorrow. We must evolve to remain relevant,” he added.
Addressing the importance of inclusivity, he pointed out that Sarawak’s diverse cultural landscape necessitates unity and cooperation.
“We have more than 37 races and ethnicities in Sarawak, and we must ensure that everyone is involved. JCI Kuching is not just for one group, we welcome members from all backgrounds,” he stated.
Rentap also encouraged JCI members to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and technology in their initiatives, describing AI as the next frontier that should be embraced swiftly.
“The faster you embrace AI, the faster you move ahead. This is how we stay competitive,” he said.
In addition to his RM20,000 contribution, Rentap highlighted the upcoming Sustainable Development Award in September as a significant milestone in promoting Sarawak’s international presence.
“We want to internationalise Sarawakian youth. This is a great platform to do so. JCI Kuching, go and make it happen,” he urged.
