MIRI: Excitement is building as Junior Chamber International (JCI) Miri prepares to launch its first-ever JCI Miri Novice Pickleball Tournament on May 25.
The event, scheduled to run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Paragon Pickleball Center, aims to introduce the fast-growing sport of pickleball to newcomers aged 18 to 40, promoting a spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie.
This mixed doubles tournament welcomes participants of all skill levels, particularly those with little to no experience.
A total of 16 teams, comprising 32 players, can take part in the competition.
Registration is set at RM25 per individual or RM50 per team, which includes a complimentary lunch.
Competitors will have the chance to secure enticing cash prizes, with RM300 awarded to the champions, RM200 for the runners-up, RM100 for third place, and RM50 for fourth place, alongside coveted trophies.
Organising chairperson, Angela F. Kong, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasising the importance of cultivating a welcoming atmosphere for young people.
“Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” she stated.
“Our goal is to create not just a competitive event, but a social platform where individuals can bond, engage in physical activity, and spread positive energy,” she added.
Kong also acknowledged the generous sponsors supporting the tournament, including Growthx Asia, CK Florist, Paragon Pickleball Center, Le Shine, Max Gym, Individual Hair Studio, SJM Auto Accessories, La Vendimia, Ishi Japanese Restaurant, and Ching Fatt Enterprise.
With growing interest in the sport, those keen to participate in the tournament are urged to sign up promptly, as spaces are limited.
