KUCHING: The Padawan Chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI) blended sport, service, and social good at the ‘Golden 50 Run’ Kuching leg, with runners stepping out in support of health, unity, and the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).

The fun run, held on Tuesday (Sept 16) at Kuching South City Council (MBKS), was part of a five-zone series across Sarawak organised by JCI Malaysia to mark its 50th anniversary.

A statement issued by JCI Padawan recently said that the event was officially launched by Kota Sentosa Assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, who commended JCI Padawan for its efforts in uniting the community through fitness and volunteerism.

“This run is more than just a race. It embodies the values essential for our journey toward Sarawak’s vision of becoming a developed, prosperous and inclusive state by 2030.

“Every step taken today represents the commitment of all ‘Anak Sarawak’ to contribute to nation-building,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of youth organisations like JCI in shaping Sarawak’s future through innovation, entrepreneurship and service to the community.

The Kuching leg of the run was made possible with the generous support of its main sponsors, Lavince Gold & Jewellery and Klinik Uptown, alongside backing from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Its partnership with SSPCA also gave the event a charitable edge, encouraging participants to contribute toward animal welfare efforts.

The event concluded with Yap officially flagging off the run, as well as congratulating JCI Malaysia on its golden jubilee.

He hoped that the event would inspire all participants to continue working together for the betterment of the community, state and nation.
