KUCHING: The Jepak state by-election victory was a testament to the people’s confidence in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and their support for the party’s policies and vision for Sarawak’s future.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas emphasised that the success of the GPS in Jepak showcased the confidence of the locals in GPS’s ability to deliver on their promises.
As such, he commended Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his leadership.
“Jepak has been a very well developed area, and therefore, the people see that only GPS can deliver, and today it is a very clear indication of the people’s confidence.
“I think this is the first by-election that we have in Sarawak after the last parliament (General Election 2022) and the 2021 state election, and so that is a thumbs up for the Premier’s leadership in leading Sarawak.
“That also shows the confidence of the people in his policies, the development programmes that we have implemented, and the direction that he’s bringing to Sarawak, especially with the Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said.
He told reporters this after attending the 22nd Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) and 33rd Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (MAVMA) Congress 2023 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (Nov 4).
Uggah then extended his gratitude to the voters for their support and reassured the public that GPS is committed to fulfilling their expectations.
He also expressed confidence in the newly elected representative, highlighting Iskandar Turkee’s educational qualifications and dedication to meeting the people’s needs.
“I have seen him going around, and I am very confident that he will be able to meet people’s expectations,” he added.
