SADONG JAYA: The Kampung Pendam jetty has been ordered closed with immediate effect following structural damage, prompting urgent safety measures to protect public users.

Infrastructure and Port Development Deputy Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, who visited the site today (July 14), directed relevant agencies to install warning notices and signage to prohibit access to the jetty until repairs are completed.

“I’ve instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate action, including putting up signs to temporarily close the jetty until the necessary repair works are carried out,” he said during the visit.

The Sadong Jaya assemblyman stressed that repair works must be expedited due to the jetty’s critical function as a main transit point for villagers conducting daily transport and economic activities.

“This jetty serves as a lifeline for the local community, and any delay in restoring it could significantly disrupt their daily routines. Swift action is essential,” he added.

The site inspection was also attended by officers from implementing and technical agencies to assess the damage and formulate both short- and long-term repair plans.

The damage is believed to have been caused by a collision involving a sand barge last Sunday. No injuries were reported in the incident.
