KUCHING: Jimmy Raymond’s dramatic 84th-minute goal propelled Kuching City FC to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Selangor FC at the Sarawak State Stadium on March 16.
The right-back’s first career goal sparked wild celebrations among fans, teammates, and coaching staff, marking a defining moment in the club’s season.
Head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak lauded his side’s resilience, highlighting Raymond’s impact and the squad’s growing belief.
“These Sarawak boys can compete with the best. They can’t see themselves as ‘kampung boys’ or second-rate players.
They proved they belong,” he said post-match, having overseen a complete turnaround at the club with the players uniting as a team.
A sign at the stadium reads “Small club with a big heart”, a sentiment vividly displayed in the team’s spirited performance.
Raymond, a Bintulu-born local, embodies that ethos, giving pride to homegrown talent with his rise in the first eleven.
Aidil praised Jimmy’s perseverance, noting his fluctuating involvement with the national team but recognising his progress.
“He kept pushing himself, and that served as a positive sign. I do hope his performance continues to improve,” the Singaporean coach added.
