LIMBANG: The Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) play a vital role not only in the development of villages but also as a frontline defence in protecting communities from fraud syndicates and transnational criminal activities.
Transport Deputy Minister, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, referred to the recent case of two teenagers from Limbang who were reported missing and believed to have travelled to London, suspected of falling prey to a syndicate.
“I urge village chiefs and JKKK members to always stay alert and monitor the movements and behaviour of the youth in their respective villages.
“We do not want more individuals to become victims of syndicates, whether as drug mules or scam targets,” he said during a recent community engagement programme.
Beyond safety matters, Hasbi also encouraged village leaders and mosque committees to be more proactive in revitalising mosques and suraus by organising various programmes to strengthen community unity and spiritual values.
He also reported positive updates on several key infrastructure projects, including the Meritam-Telahak-Buang Abai-Pengkalan Rejab Road Project Phase 2, which was officially handed over to a new contractor on May 9 and is expected to be completed within six months.
Additionally, he highlighted the progress of large-scale projects such as Phase 2 of the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR), the Pan Borneo Highway project, as well as several village road constructions and new places of worship around Limbang.
Meanwhile, 45 JKKK under the Limbang parliamentary constituency have received a total of RM180,000 through the Outright Grant allocation.
