KUCHING: Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has expressed his disappointment with the Public Works Department (JKR) for not improving and upgrading the drainage system on both sides of the federal road from Jalan Batu Kawa, Stapok to the Datuk Chong Kiun Kong bridge.
The area’s water outlet was seriously blocked, causing flooding during heavy downpour.
Dr Sim disclosed that the Batu Kawah Service Centre had received several calls from the public about the problem this year, and staff had visited the site and written to Sarawak JKR to rectify it.
However, he said, JKR had still not solved the problem.
“My secretary has rewritten to JKR with photo attachments on the affected area. Thus, I hope that JKR will have no more excuses to get the issue solved,” said Dr Sim yesterday following a visit to the area.
He added that it was unacceptable for the federal government to collect various taxes from Sarawak yearly, yet they could not provide Sarawakians with better roads.
