Jobless man jailed 14 months for punching foster mother

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced an unemployed man to 14 months in prison for injuring his foster mother by punching her in the face.

Mohd Izzan Mohd Hashim, 34, who is a person with a learning disability, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code.

The incident occurred at around 2am on Dec 30, 2024, at their residence in Laruh Skim, Jalan Matang.

Based on the case facts, the complainant received a message from his family member that his 77-year-old aunt had been punched by Mohd Izzan.

The complainant lodged a police report for further action and the perpetrator was arrested on Jan 2.

Investigations revealed that Mohd Izzan punched his foster mother in the face without reason.

Previously, he had acted aggressively and hit the victim, though the previous incident had gone unreported.
