KUCHING: Joe’s Academy of Boxing (JAB) are ready to unleash their young fighters at the 4th Sarawak Open Boxing Championship 2025, scheduled at the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium from August 19 to 23.
Head coach, Zurkarnain Majidi, said the academy were banking on fresh faces making their competitive debut, with a target of at least two gold medals in different categories.
“Most of the boxers we are fielding this time are new and competing for the first time. Still, we are aiming for at least two gold medals,” he told Arena Suara Sarawak.
JAB will not be fielding some of their senior boxers due to unavoidable commitments, including school examinations.
The medals are being targeted in the women’s youth and men’s junior categories.
For this edition, the academy will line up 11 boxers – six in men’s junior, four in women’s youth and one in men’s youth.
Zurkarnain said the main mission was to provide exposure to the academy’s newcomers.
“We hope they can gain valuable experience throughout the competition,” he added.
