KLUANG, Johor: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) victory in the Johor State Election is crucial in strengthening the system of checks and balances in the state’s democracy, said Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Secretary-General, Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

He said PH candidates’ victories across multiple constituencies are necessary to prevent Johor’s political landscape from being dominated by a single coalition, and to promote a more stable administration.

“If a single party (dominates the administration), a government will have no alternative, no checks and balances, and no other party to challenge them,” he said when speaking at a DAP dinner event here tonight.

Among those present were DAP’s Deputy National Chairman, Nga Kor Ming, and Deputy Secretary-General, Steven Sim Chee Keong.

PH, which comprises Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), is fielding candidates in all 56 state assembly seats in this election.

In total, 172 candidates are contesting the Johor State Election, due to be held on July 11, with early voting on July 7.
