Muay Thai prodigy Johan Ghazali, better known as Jojo, has a few open secrets up his sleeve. In an exclusive interview with Sarawak Tribune, he reveals how he prepares for his next match and stays confident throughout his fights.
On a relentless pursuit of championship glory
Among the many lessons Muay Thai prodigy Johan Ghazali has learned in the ring, one stands out — it’s not just about winning. It’s about pushing limits, handling pressure, and staying humble, no matter where life takes you.
“Muay Thai has taught me a lot — discipline, resilience, and the importance of a positive mindset,” said the 18-year-old, popularly known as Jojo.
His journey in martial arts began a decade ago when he was just eight years old. Inspired by his parents, who were professional fighters, he developed a deep passion for the sport and has come a long way since. Amidst his rigorous training, Jojo also prioritises self-care, relying on grooming products from Nateskin to boost his confidence both in and out of the ring.
In an interview with Sarawak Tribune, Jojo opens up about the challenges he has faced in Muay Thai and how he prepares for battle:

What were the key moments that helped you transition from local competitions to joining ONE Championship?
It all comes down to hard work and consistency. If you want to compete at the highest level, you have to put in the effort every single day. Reaching ONE Championship has been life-changing, not just for me but for my family too. We’re all working towards the same dream now, and their support means everything to me.
Can you describe your average training day?
My day starts with a 12-kilometre run, followed by pad work, sparring, and conditioning sessions. I train twice a day to keep my body in peak condition. Diet is also crucial — it’s tailored to match my fight schedule. But beyond the physical aspect, the mental game is just as important. I focus on my goals, visualise success, and stay disciplined.
Part of my preparation also includes self-care, which is where Nateskin comes in. Their products help me stay fresh and confident, whether I’m training or stepping into the ring.
How do you balance professional sports with your personal life and interests?
Balance is key. I keep a structured schedule that allows me to dedicate time to training, recovery, and personal life. Surrounding myself with the right people — my family, my team, and Nateskin — keeps me grounded and motivated. Taking care of myself, both physically and mentally, is just as important as my performance in the ring.
What are your major Muay Thai goals for the next few years?
I’m aiming for the championship belt — I want to be a world champion in Muay Thai. That’s my ultimate goal, and I’ll keep pushing until I achieve it.

You’ve collaborated with Nateskin. Why did you choose them, and how does this partnership affect you?
Nateskin was founded by Jared Chuah, who truly understands the importance of self-care and confidence, especially for athletes like me. Their products help me stay fresh and comfortable throughout my intense training sessions. This collaboration also gives me a platform to connect with the community beyond just fighting. It’s about inspiring others to take care of themselves and feel their best.
How do you include Nateskin’s products into your daily routine, especially before fights?
I use Nateskin’s grooming products daily, but my favourite has to be the boxer briefs. When I train, comfort and breathability matter a lot, and Nateskin delivers on both. It keeps me feeling fresh, whether I’m sparring, running, or stepping into the ring. Plus, having a hygiene routine before fights also helps me feel more prepared and confident. Small details like this make a big difference in an athlete’s mindset.
Who or what has had the greatest impact on your life and training?
My family has been my biggest influence. They are my support system and the reason I push myself every day. Superbon Gym has also played a huge role in shaping my fighting style and improving my skills.
Since you’re currently training in Sarawak, how does the local environment influence your training and mindset?
Sarawak is an amazing place to train. The environment helps me stay focused and disciplined while also giving me a balanced lifestyle. It’s peaceful, and that allows me to dedicate myself fully to my craft.
What advice would you give to young athletes in Sarawak who want to pursue Muay Thai?
Stay focused, be disciplined, and never give up. The journey isn’t easy, but if you truly want it, you have to put in the work. At the end of the day, it’s your choice — commit to it, and success will follow.
And don’t forget to take care of yourself along the way — feeling your best helps you perform your best.
