KUCHING: The Initial M: Media SIM Racing Grand Prix was officially launched today (Aug 2) by Metadise Electronic Sports Club (MESC) in collaboration with HazelComms and the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA).

The event brought together nine media organisations and 17 journalists, shifting traditional reporting into the virtual racing arena to explore new marketing and engagement possibilities.

Held at Metadise Sim Racing, the event featured qualifying rounds to determine the seven teams that will advance to the final Time Attack Round on Aug 30, where they will compete on a simulated Sepang Circuit for the ultimate title.

“What we are seeing with the Initial M Sim Racing Grand Prix is the media taking the lead in a new kind of race — one that blends digital innovation with real audience impact.

“This initiative not only showcases the power of immersive engagement but also sets the stage for corporate brands to harness sim racing as a bold, interactive platform.

“The media have kicked off the momentum now it is time for the corporate world to get behind the wheel,” said MESC president Afiq Fadhli Narawi in a press statement.

The competition aims to position sim racing as a creative platform that links media professionals, inspires fresh content, and fosters innovation.

“This event flips the script. Journalists are not just reporting the news — they are part of it now. It is a new frontier where media and motorsport converge in real time.

“It exemplifies a progressive model for brand-media collaboration within the evolving e-sports landscape,” said HazelComms managing director Hazel Jasni.

Kuching Division Journalists Association president Ronnie Teo also commended the programme.

“We are grateful to Metadise and HazelComms for giving Kuching media the opportunity to experience sim racing firsthand through this inaugural tournament.

“As members of the media, we typically observe and report from the sidelines. Having the chance to immerse ourselves in the world of sim racing gives us a deeper appreciation and a better understanding of the sport’s potential.

“We look forward to more such engagements in the future to continue broadening the media’s horizons.”

The upcoming final on August 30 promises a high-energy showdown, complete with awards, exclusive recognitions, and high-value content opportunities designed to elevate media visibility and strengthen brand partnerships.
