SIBU: The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) is embarking on an internal audit to assess compliance with vehicle standards and specifications among its officers and staff across all state and branch offices.
The ongoing audit focuses particularly on the use of tinted windows and vehicle registration number formats in accordance with existing road transport regulations.
JPJ Sarawak Deputy Director, Nor Azlan Ibrahim, said the initiative is aimed at setting a positive example for the public by ensuring departmental vehicles strictly adhere to the law.
“We want vehicles owned and used by JPJ Sarawak officers and staff to serve as role models in compliance with established regulations and be roadworthy at all times,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He also encouraged vehicle owners in Sarawak to visit the nearest JPJ branch and obtain accurate information on permissible vehicle modifications under the Road Transport Act 1987 and its related rules.
Earlier today, Nor Azlan and JPJ Sarawak Head of Operations Section, Enforcement Officer Saifullah Ali, took part in the department’s Director’s Operation No. 5/2025 held at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here.
Commenting further on the audit initiative, which has been in place since last year, Nor Azlan said any departmental vehicle found to be non-compliant would be issued a notice for further investigation and necessary action.
“As an enforcement agency, it is imperative that our personnel lead by example and not become poor role models for the public,” he added.
He also reminded the public to comply with all road safety laws, not only in relation to vehicle modifications, but across all aspects of road safety, to help ensure a secure and conducive road environment in Sarawak.
