SIBU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sibu Branch, in collaboration with the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), has intensified efforts to curb illegal vehicle modifications through an awareness programme held at the SMC Public Library, Jalan Bako, on Friday.
The briefing on vehicle modifications in accordance with the Road Transport Act 1987 and its regulations was officiated by the JPJ Sarawak’s Deputy Director, Nor Azlan Ibrahim, and attended by 80 participants, including 35 accessory shop operators, vehicle dealers and motorcycle workshops operators, as well as officers from JPJ Sibu, Stapang and SMC staff.

In his address, Nor Azlan stressed that extreme vehicle modification poses serious safety risks and are considered offences under the law.
He said strict enforcement, including vehicle confiscation, will be taken against offenders.
Nor Azlan also urged accessory shop operators, vehicle dealers and workshop operators to play their part by educating customers about the dangers and legal implications regarding illegal modifications.
He added that close cooperation between the authorities and industry players is crucial to ensure the safety of all road users.
Also present were SMC’s Deputy Chairman, Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley, and JPJ Sibu Branch’s deputy head, Mohd Ariffin Zaini.
