MIRI: The ‘Jualan Rahmah’ initiative is helping to ease the financial burden of the people, according to Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting .

Speaking at the launch of the programme at a supermarket in Bakam on Sunday (March 2), Ting expressed his appreciation for the initiative, which offers essential goods at reduced prices to alleviate rising living costs.

“This is wonderful. I must thank those involved in making this happen,” he said.

He said last year, a total of 130 ‘Jualan Rahmah’ events were held across the Miri division and hopes to see even more organised this year.

“We are starting in my constituency this year. If possible, we aim for each constituency to have two events, with additional ones allocated at the parliamentary level,” he added.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Ministry’s Sarawak director, Matthew Barin, said last year’s ‘Jualan Rahmah’ events here were well-received, attracting large crowds from surrounding areas.

The programme prioritises the sale of basic necessities, including chicken, seafood, eggs, bottled cooking oil, wheat flour, rice, fresh vegetables and fruits, household cleaning supplies, personal care items, disposable nappies, school essentials, medicines, and other daily necessities.

Additionally, each sale must include 1kg packets of cooking oil and sugar, sold at set prices without government subsidies.

Also in attendance at the launch was Miri KPDN chief, Thomas Chua.
