KUCHING: The Juh Berambeh Sungkey @ Kuching 2025 programme is not just about breaking the fast en masse but also a symbol of unity and interfaith harmony in Sarawak.
Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, described the programme as an important step to strengthening social relationships.
“Although iftar is a practice among Muslims, many non-Muslim friends also participate to experience breaking the fast together.
“This is the best platform for us to understand each other better,” he said during a press conference on the event on Tuesday.
The programme is set to take place on March 15 at Padang Merdeka, here, and is expected to attract more than 3,000 participants from diverse backgrounds.
This year, the programme will feature participation from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), signifying the state government’s commitment to strengthening relationships among Sarawak’s multiracial and multireligious communities.
Unifor Director, Datuk Georgina Apphia Ngau, stated that this initiative aligns with Unifor’s mission to foster mutual understanding and encourage the involvement of various communities in religious and cultural events.
“In Sarawak, we take pride in sitting together regardless of religious or racial backgrounds.
“Unifor’s presence in this programme shows that the spirit of unity starts from the grassroots level and should be nurtured from a young age,” she said.
Additionally, she emphasised that representatives from various religions will be present at the event, reflecting Sarawak’s unique identity as a harmonious society.
With Unifor’s involvement, she noted that Juh Berambeh Sungkey 2025 will not only strengthen unity among Muslims but also create opportunities for people of different faiths to interact and understand one another, positioning Sarawak as a model of harmony in diversity.
