KUCHING: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting lit up with smiles and chuckles when Utility and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi delivered his ministerial winding-up speech today (May 26).
One stanza of his poem, in particular, referenced English football club Liverpool, drawing visible amusement from assemblypersons in the chamber.
The stanza read:
Hasrat hati nak jadi juara,
Apa kan daya Liverpool bertakhta,
Manchester City tempat ketiga,
Manchester United entah di mana,
Utiliti tersedia rakyat gembira,
Jasa GPS kepada semua.
Many assemblypersons were seen grinning, clearly entertained by the football reference, especially those familiar with the ongoing Premier League banter.
Julaihi had earlier opened his poetic remarks with patriotic and unity-themed verses:
Burung merpati burung kenyalang,
Hinggap seekor di atas ladang,
Hak Sarawak terus diperjuang,
Demi rakyat Sarawakku sayang.
Ikan terubuk ikan tenggiri,
Resipi asli si anak dara,
Jangan jealous iri hati,
Maju Sarawak untuk Malaysia.
He concluded with a call for unity:
Kayu meranti kayu jati,
Buat ukiran buat meja,
Marilah kita bersatu hati,
Untuk Malaysia negara tercinta.
Earlier, in his winding-up, Julaihi also said the visionary leadership and unwavering commitment of the Premier in driving the state’s development particularly in empowering the utility and telecommunications sectors demonstrates the Sarawak government’s determination to achieve developed and high-income state status by 2030.
