KUCHING: Sarawak’s junior water polo teams came home with heads held high — with silver and bronze medals to show for it — after a decisive battle at the 2nd National Inter-Club Water Polo Championship – President Cup 2025 last week.
Competing under the Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC), the state’s Under-12 team finished runners-up, while the Under-14 team claimed third place.
Coach Voon Yong Hui said he was proud of the players’ performances, praising their dedication and progress.
“They gave their best and pushed themselves. It’s clear they’ve grown stronger — physically, mentally, and technically,” he said.
However, he noted that there is still a long way to go.
“In terms of skill, fitness, and strength, we are doing well. But when it comes to game pressure and decision-making, we still have work to do.
“The players need more exposure to real match situations,” he added.
Voon added that the competition offered valuable lessons and highlighted the importance of building confidence and composure under pressure.
On their social media page, PASC also paid tribute to the young athletes, naming Bong Nai Hsen and Thriston Sii Rui as Most Valuable Players (MVPs) for the Under-12 team, and Tay Kee Ren and Jon-Marcus Ling Kwong Cheng for the Under-14s.
“A big thank you to the coaches, parents, and supporters who were with them every step of the way.
“Your dedication, teamwork, and fighting spirit in the pool are truly commendable. Keep working hard and chasing your dreams — this is only the beginning. We are proud of each and every one of you,” the club wrote.
The three-day tournament took place from Aug 1 to Aug 3 at the Kedah Aquatic Centre in Gunung Keriang.
