KUCHING: The Sarawak kabaddi team are gearing up for intensive training ahead of SUKMA, with plans to bring in a Thai national coach for specialised coaching in Kuching.
Sarawak Kabaddi Association president Muttiah Pillai Sinnathambi said the team are looking forward to early preparation training, which will be held this year.
“We will call up the head coach from Thailand, and regarding this matter, I, along with Sarawak head coach Ganisan Punisamy, have approached the national coach of Thailand, Ravi Shetty, to conduct intensive training in Kuching for the SUKMA team,” he told Sarawak Tribune recently.
In addition to strengthening the current squad, the Sarawak Kabaddi Association are focusing on expanding its coaching network by deploying more trained coaches across the state.
“We are looking forward to schools, especially secondary schools, taking up this game, forming clubs, and reaching out to our association for coaches.
“We have many senior players who can assist in this matter,” he said.
This initiative aims to develop more kabaddi athletes at the grassroots level, particularly in secondary schools, by encouraging the formation of clubs and structured training programs.
“We are also planning to deploy more coaches across the state to help develop kabaddi athletes,” he added.
