KUCHING: As the countdown to the Rentap Fighting Championship (RFC) 2025 heats up, one fighter is ready to make a statement in the ring — that is Kabilan Jelevan from Rentap Muay Thai.

Set to duke it off against Kenyan fighter Dave from Superbon Training Camp on Jan 18 at Stadium Perpaduan, Kuching, Kabilan is rather eager to prove his mettle in the ring.

The muay thai athlete who has been steadily climbing the ranks, shared his thoughts ahead of the high-stakes bout.

Despite not knowing much about his opponent’s fighting style, Kabilan was confident on his ability to adapt on the fight day.

“I have not seen him fight before, but I will be reading his moves in-and-out during the match.

“In round one and two, I would feel him out, and after that, I will start to push him,” he told Sarawak Tribune recently.

On a different side of the coin, the date Jan 18 bout holds significance for Kabilan, as it coincides with his birthday.

“I am really pumped up right now because this coming Sunday is my special day.

“Winning this fight would be the best present ever,” he said with a grin.

With his focus sharpened and adrenaline running high, Kabilan was not one who would take his opponent lightly.

“From what I know, he had never fought anyone from Rentap before, so I would be the first.

“I have trained hard for this, especially with my coach. We have been working tirelessly on countering and blocking, drilling on every kick and knee,” Kabilan added.

In terms of strategy, Kabilan knew what he needed to do.

“My coach said he was the type who would manoeuvre on with forward and throw kicks, so my job on the day would be to counter those attacks and prevent any follow-up and opportunities running wild.

“I am more than ready to take on whatever that comes my way,” he concluded.
