SARATOK: The Kalaka constituency has received various projects worth RM5.15 million from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) since 2023.

Its assemblyman Mohamad Duri, said the MADANI government, through KKDW, has provided significant allocations to implement development projects in the area.

“From 2023 to 2025, the total allocation from KKDW for the Kalaka constituency amounts to RM5,150,000.

“This includes several Village Link Road (JPD) projects that have been completed, are currently underway, or are planned for implementation,” he said.

He said this during the ground-breaking ceremony for the Kampung Kupang-Jalan Bajau junction project at Rumah Rengan, Selambong, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, here today.

Mohamad added that such projects are instrumental in enhancing basic infrastructure in rural areas.

Following the announcement of the approved bridge construction across Sungai Krian at Tanjung Kalimah, Kampung Pagan, near Saratok town, Mohamad also called on KKDW to expedite the project’s implementation.

“This bridge is a crucial facility to replace the community’s reliance on the passenger boat service, which operates on a limited schedule.

“It has long hindered the smooth movement of residents and goods in the villages and longhouses located across from Saratok town.

“Therefore, the bridge’s construction will act as a catalyst for development, contributing not only to socioeconomic growth but also to job creation and human capital development in the Kalaka constituency, the Betong Division in particular, and Sarawak as a whole,” he said.

He expressed confidence that, with the strong support of the people in his constituency, the vision to see Kalaka and Saratok prosper and progress will become a reality.

At the same event, Mohamad also relayed residents’ requests for the construction of access roads to three longhouses, with an estimated cost of RM970,000.

“These include Rengan Selambong longhouse to Nyawai Tinting Jelai longhouse, Selambong, and to Patih longhouse, Sungai Sedan, Saratok.

“In addition, there is a request for the installation of 841 solar-powered street lights along the Bajau-Kupang road, with an estimated cost of RM7.8 million.

“Among other requests are the upgrading of Rengan Selambong longhouse at an estimated cost of RM3.3 million, and the upgrading of Nyawai Guang longhouse, costing RM207,200,” he said.
