SARATOK: The 2025 edition of Kalaka Regatta (Pesta Saratok) is offering a total of RM120, 505 in prize money for water sports and boat race enthusiasts in the state, from July 11 to 13.
According to Kalaka Assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, the main prize will go to the winner of the Raja Sungai title, set at RM15, 000.

“For the total boat race prize pool of RM120, 505, it includes RM15, 000 for the final paddle of the Sakai 30 or Raja Sungai Regatta Kalaka.
“In addition, RM5, 000 will go to the Sakai 30 marathon champion and RM1, 500 for the Raja Pecut Kalaka Regatta,” he told reporters recently.
As in previous years, he explained, the race categories are divided into Bidar 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 paddlers.
“The Krian River will also host sprint events for 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 paddlers, marathon race (30 paddlers), outboard motor race (5 horsepower), and a decorative boat competition.
“Registration is now open and will close on July 3.
“We’re certainly aiming for greater participation than in previous years, especially since the Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is expected to witness the final race on July 13,” he added.
Mohamad further shared that this year’s theme remains Muafakat Membawa Berkat (Unity Brings Blessings), which is not only highly relevant to the boat races but also to community life.
“When a community unites, every effort becomes easier, challenges lighter, and the outcome brings blessings and well-being for all.
“It’s the same in boat racing every paddler must work closely together for the boat to move swiftly and in unison. Without mutual understanding and unity, the boat will lose rhythm and success becomes difficult.
“This proves that success can only be achieved when all members are united and supportive of one another.
“It is my great hope that this gathering of teams from different regions will strengthen camaraderie and sportsmanship, not just to win, but to celebrate unity among participants and spectators.
“Unity in the regatta brings communities together through tradition and a strong spirit of togetherness,” he stressed.
He earlier attended the Pesta Saratok Committee Meeting No. 3/2025, chaired by Saratok district officer, Muhammad Dino Amid.
A total of 21 programmes have been planned to enliven the iconic event in Saratok District, which is now listed in the Sarawak Tourism Calendar.
