KALAKA assemblyman Mohamad Duri seeks more development initiatives, especially concerning essential facilities.

He brought up the growing concern among local residents in his constituency regarding frequent electricity supply disruptions, commonly referred to as blackouts.

“Of particular concern are the frequent electricity blackouts plaguing the region, prompting a call for a comprehensive analysis by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to assess peak loads and upgrade transformer capacities accordingly.

“Moreover, I recommend practical measures to enhance the reliability of electricity supply, including the placement of switching personnel in key divisions and the installation of monitoring cameras near transformers to deter tampering,” he told the august House on Thursday (May 9).

He suggested that SEB enhance transformer capacity, increase the rating of LT fuses, and implement distribution schemes for balanced loading. Preventing recurrent blackouts, especially before festive occasions is crucial.

He went on mentioning that rural development should prioritise providing clean water supply to every corner and district in the state, especially in Kalaka.

Numerous villages, including eight longhouses are facing urgent challenges in accessing clean water.

“Further underscoring the severity of the situation, villages like Paloh, Kaba, and Perpat are also in dire need of clean water supply. Despite the pressing need, these communities have yet to receive treated water supply from the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).

“In light of these circumstances, I call upon Tan Sri Datuk Amar Speaker and relevant ministries to prioritise addressing this fundamental need for rural communities.

“It’s imperative to ensure that the basic needs of these villages, longhouse settlements, and schools are promptly met.”

He added the issue of internet access in his area continues to be a significant concern, especially for students, teachers, and business entrepreneurs who rely on internet connectivity for daily activities.

“Furthermore, Institutes of education or technical centres need to be established in the Roban area to nurture skilled young generations.

“Institutions such as Sarawak Skills, Community Colleges, CENTEXS, and other relevant skills institutions should be established.”
