SERIAN: The upgrading of a two-kilometre stretch of road in Kampung Sungai Engkabang B here is set to spur agricultural development and improve connectivity for villagers once completed.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Martin Ben, said the RM879,999 project began on June 3 and is expected to be completed by February 2 next year.
“The road upgrading works involve replacing old culverts, laying stones, and resurfacing the road.
“It will spur local economic activity, especially in agriculture, by enabling villagers to open up land for commercial crops such as oil palm and to establish new residential areas,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony at Dewan Kampung Engkabang B today.
Martin, who is also the Kedup Assemblyman, urged the contractor to ensure the project is carried out efficiently and completed within the timeframe set by the Public Works Department (PWD).
He added that improved rural infrastructure is crucial in creating long-term opportunities for farming communities in the area.
