LIMBANG: Kampung Mengatai has been chosen as the host for the Badudun Festival and Buffalo Racing 2026, set to take place from October 23 to 25, in line with efforts to boost tourism and the socio-economic development of the local community.
Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak, and Bukit Kota assemblyman, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, announced this during a visit to the proposed festival site on Tuesday.
The visit aimed to assess the need for site upgrades and identify development components under the 2026 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), ensuring the festival is organised safely, comfortably, and in an orderly manner.
Dr Abdul Rahman also approved an allocation of RM300,000 for the upgrading works. Proposed improvements include a new stage, upgraded field surface, gravel road around the field, and enhanced drainage system.
He said the RTP project would not only support the festival but also provide a standard-spec football field, bringing long-term benefits to Kampung Mengatai residents and neighbouring communities.
Also present were Aspalela Mohamad Sahmoni, representative of the Limbang Divisional Resident; Limbang Assistant District Officer, Mariati Samat; JKR Limbang engineers, Nur Ain Abdul Rahman and Affizul Hashrapf Mola; Limbang Malay Association Chairman, Mohamad Abu Bakar; and Kampung Mengatai’s village head, Abu Bakar Mohamad.
