PADAWAN: Kampung Petag here will receive a RM60,000 grant to build a new kitchen area and purchase new chairs and tables for the village’s multipurpose hall.

Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Willie Mongin, said the grant, to be disbursed next year, will equip the hall with better facilities for community events.

“As for the concern of Kampung Petag’s village chief (Mecca Sadjoy) to equip the multipurpose hall with better facilities, a grant will be given to build a new kitchen area.

“I understand that this multipurpose hall has been used for various events. Hence, it is right to have a kitchen area for the village’s women’s bureau to cook. A total of RM50,000 will be given next year to the village committee for the physical project.

“I will try to give a bit of flexibility to allow the villagers to build the kitchen instead of tendering the project,” he said in his speech when officiating the Gotong-Royong Perdana event at Kampung Petag Multipurpose Hall, here today.

Moreover, Willie said he will also provide RM10,000 to the village committee to buy new chairs and tables for the multipurpose hall as the chairs and tables used currently are worn out.

Apart from that, he also stressed on close cooperation between village chiefs and residents, especially when dealing with issues such as maintenance of infrastructure, aid for activities, and financial assistance for the needy.

He said that there are a lot of processes that need to be gone through to get approval from the federal government when it involves finances.

“As MPs, we are able to give financial assistance when there are requests. However, we also have to go by the book so that the fund is spent wisely.

“But do not worry. Although it might take time, I will try to help wherever I can in order to ease the burden of constituents,” he said.
