PADAWAN: Kampung Sadir has officially been designated as a Geo Park Village from December 22 until December 31, 2027, making it an important component of the Sarawak Delta Geopark development.
Village chief, Bobyham William, said the recognition highlights the village’s geological value and natural beauty.
“This recognition also include our culture, food and community involvement as the core elements of geopark development.

“Through this platform, Kampung Sadir is elevated as a Geo Park Village that integrates nature, culture and community life,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters during Pesta Makan Durian Kampung Sadir.
Bobyham added that Kampung Sadir is well known for its unique and 100 per cent organic durians, cultivated without the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides.
“Our durians come from mountainous and hilly areas and have to be carried on foot for about one and a half hours.

“The taste of durians from this village is also recognised by visitors as being unique,” he said.
The festival entered its third edition this year, with a higher turnout compared to previous years, and with more than 2,000 durians collected for the festival.
“There were about 1,000 durians during last year’s event. This year, more than 2,000 durians were sold by villagers, including several donated contributions, with some families donating two durians each,” he said.
In a related development, Kampung Sadir has also been selected as a pilot village for the Ecological Fiscal Transfer for Biodiversity (EFT) project, which focuses on ecology and biology.
“Our youths are being trained and exposed to geology, biodiversity and local flora.
“Hence, this helps our youth to become more knowledgeable tour guides, with a better understanding of rocks, plant species and biodiversity in Kampung Sadir,” he explained.
