KUCHING: The riverbank erosion control project at Kampung Sageng is scheduled for completion by April 2027, with an estimated cost of RM40,801,941.00.
The project, which will be carried out over a period of 24 months, aims to mitigate erosion risks along the Kampung Sageng River and protect surrounding infrastructure and residential areas.
A symbolic handover ceremony for the project to the appointed contractor was held on Tuesday (April 15) at the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).
The event was witnessed by Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, who noted the significance of the project in safeguarding the local community.
He said the initiative was the result of ongoing discussions and close collaboration with the Sarawak DID to identify effective solutions to the long-standing erosion issue affecting Kampung Sageng.
“I hope the project will be implemented smoothly and completed according to schedule.”
The erosion control initiative is part of the Sarawak government’s broader efforts to tackle riverbank erosion, which has impacted homes and public infrastructure in vulnerable areas across the state.
This project is expected to serve as a stepping stone in the state government’s continuous mission to enhance infrastructure resilience and ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents living in erosion-prone areas.
