SEBUYAU: The potential of payak merah (red clams) as Kampung Tebelu’s signature product is being promoted to boost local tourism, entrepreneurship and community-based economic growth.
The initiative took centre stage during the four-day Pesta Payak Merah Tebelu 2026 here, which brought together residents, visitors and local entrepreneurs from July 16 to 19.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, who is also Sebuyau assemblyman, officiated at the festival, which attracted about 150 visitors and featured activities highlighting Tebelu’s seafood resources and cultural heritage.
Among the highlights were competitions and exhibitions, sales by local entrepreneurs, promotions of various dishes made using payak merah, cultural performances and community activities that received encouraging response from residents and visitors.
The festival was organised to position payak merah as a unique product associated with Tebelu while creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to expand their market reach and generate income through community-driven economic activities.
Apart from promoting the village’s seafood potential, the programme also aimed to strengthen Tebelu’s identity as a destination rich in marine resources and cultural heritage.
It also served as a platform to foster closer community ties, strengthen unity and encourage greater participation among residents in developing the local economy.
