KUCHING: In a move aimed at strengthening local leadership, three new ‘penghulus’ were officially appointed while two outgoing penghulus were recognised for their service at an event held in Kapit on Friday night (Jan 23).
The event was attended by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kapit.
“The appointments of community leaders and village heads (KMKK) in Kapit are conducted in an orderly and transparent manner, determined by a specially appointed committee,” he stated in his Facebook post today (Jan 24).
He also stressed the importance of continuous training and staying up-to-date with technology, noting that continuous training and courses for the KMKK are essential to ensure the quality of service to the people remains strengthened.

“I also advise the KMKK to keep learning and stay up-to-date with the use of the internet and mass media, as almost all matters and information delivery today involve technology,” he said.
The newly appointed ‘penghulus’ are Penghulu Robert Edmund Ngumbang, Penghulu James Sandak Bidai, and Penghulu Sekudan Abor.
Nanta urged the newly appointed ‘penghulus’ to serve with full dedication, underlining the government’s commitment to strengthening local leadership and ensuring effective service delivery in the Kapit Division.
The event was also attended by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Sarawak (Law and Bumiputera Customs), Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
