KUCHING: In a bid to support the less fortunate ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, community leaders have distributed new ‘baju raya’ and essential supplies to underprivileged individuals.
The initiative aims to ensure that those facing hardship can celebrate the festive season with dignity.
The recipients, currently housed in a shelter run by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), included a family struggling financially after their breadwinner was incarcerated, and an elderly man who was previously homeless.
During a visit to purchase essential items, two young girls expressed their desire for new school bags.
In response, local kapitans (community leaders) stepped in to provide them with the much-needed supplies.
Additionally, a young boy received a ‘songkok’ for school use and a ‘kopiah’ for prayer, while the elderly man was also gifted a ‘kopiah’, adding a sense of dignity to their celebration.
The kapitans highlighted the importance of such initiatives in uplifting the underprivileged, particularly children who are still attending school.
They urged the community to continue supporting those in need, ensuring that no one is left behind during the festive season.
