KUCHING: KasihnITa programme empowers single mothers with skills, knowledge, and support to build confidence while strengthening resilience, drawing strong participation at Hotel Grand Continental here yesterday (July 19).

Sarawak Tribune spoke to several participants who shared how KasihnITa had equipped them with practical knowledge, emotional support, and greater awareness of the assistance available to help them rebuild their lives.

I participated in KasihnITa because I wanted to gain more information on how to cope after my divorce, especially on managing my emotions and understanding what steps I should take to rebuild my life. I also got to learn about organisations that can help single mothers understand and claim our rights.

This programme has empowered single mothers to improve our quality of life while supporting ourselves and raising our children. It also provides a safe and supportive community where we can share our experiences with others who have gone through similar situations.

I hope programmes like this will continue and reach more single mothers, providing them with the knowledge, support, and opportunities they need to rebuild their lives with confidence.

My late husband passed away in an accident eight years ago. As a mother of six, this programme has given me valuable knowledge and support to better provide for my children, especially those who are still studying.

Before joining this programme, I was unaware of the many forms of assistance available, and the information I have gained will not only benefit me but also help me guide and support my children in the future.

I hope more single mothers will continue to seek opportunities and take the initiative to improve their lives instead of relying on assistance. We must make our own effort to find a way forward.

I have been a single mother for six months, and the journey has been emotionally and financially challenging. Although I was not eligible for financial aid when I registered as a single mother because I am a government servant, I was encouraged to register as a volunteer and introduced to other support services.

Then I discovered this programme, which has provided valuable knowledge, particularly on legal assistance, where I received step-by-step guidance, as well as financial management and emotional support.

I hope such programmes will expand to rural areas, including seminars on financial management, entrepreneurship, and psychological wellbeing. I also hope society will change its perception of single mothers and recognise our resilience rather than judge us.

Alvernia Agnes

ALVERNIA AGNES, 43

I first discovered KasihnITa on Facebook, and it reminds us that being a single mother should never discourage us. Instead, we must keep moving forward for the sake of our children.

I grew my online business from delivering products with my children to selling beauty, health, and household items. I believe saving is essential, and I hope my hard work inspires my children. Through perseverance, I became a top stockist, which also earned me opportunities to travel overseas. Today, I run a spa and conduct makeup classes in Metrocity.

I hope programmes like this will expand to more single mothers, particularly those in rural areas, so they can learn about their rights, available assistance, and become more empowered.
