KUCHING: Top performances by media professionals took centre court at the Karnival Sukan Media Sarawak (KASUMeS) 2025 badminton tournament.

Partnering with Sharifah Roziah, Naziry Harizan clinched first place in the Mixed Doubles category, earning cash and medals for their top finish at the tournament held on June 24 and 25 at Stadium Perpaduan, Kuching.

He also teamed up with Muhamad Faisal Ahmad in the Men’s Doubles, where the duo secured third place, adding another medal to Naziry’s impressive showing.

In the Men’s Doubles, the title went to Sabini Annuar and Justin Jarop, who took home cash and medals after a strong campaign.

Wenceslaus Abas and Muhammad Yusri Majeni claimed second place.

Meanwhile, in the Mixed Doubles, Muhammad Iqbal Syahiran and Ezzah Syafiqah finished second, while Nurshamilya Amira Abang Sidek and Jonnie Kiew settled for third place.

The badminton event was one of the highlights of KASUMeS 2025, bringing together media practitioners from across the southern zone in a spirited display of athleticism and camaraderie.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Operation), Datuk Hii Chang Kee, and Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) Director, Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan.

Hii in his address at the closing ceremony at the Stadium Perpaduan encouraged more media practitioners to participate in the Games.

“I hope more members of the media will take part in initiatives like this.

“We also need to explore more creative platforms – beyond just conventions or seminars – including practical workshops that can empower journalists and media professionals with the necessary skills to move forward,” he said.
