KUCHING: The SABERKAS Demak Laut Branch has successfully wrapped up the KASUS 2024 Sepak Takraw Tournament, which saw 16 teams vieing for the title at the Kpg Bako Hijrah Hall.
The annual SABERKAS Sports Carnival (KASUS) was hosted with the aim of promoting healthy living among the youth and strengthening community bonds through the sport of sepak takraw.
The tournament featured 16 teams divided into four groups. The preliminary rounds for groups A and B were held on Dec 15 at the Sepak Takraw Field in Kpg Bako Hijrah, while groups C and D competed on Dec 22 at the Kpg Pinggan Jaya Hall.
After an intense competition, Katalot Eagles emerged as champions, taking home RM1,500 in cash, a trophy and medals.
UKSH B finished as runners-up, earning RM1,000, a trophy, and medals. Foochow B claimed third place, with Foochow D finishing fourth. The third-place team received RM700 and the fourth-place team won RM500.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, the Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, and chairman of the SABERKAS Demak Laut Branch.
Also in attendance were Aymer Cedrick Masek, SABERKAS Sarawak’s Corporate Management Unit head, community leader Lai Salleh and Kampung Hijrah Bako village chief Ahet Jenis.
