KUCHING: Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) President, Ronnie Teo Teck Wei, is part of the founding board of the Malaysia Media Council (MMC) following its official gazettement on Friday.
According to Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, the board comprises 12 people: four representatives for each category, namely media companies, media associations, media professionals, and non-media practitioners.
Other members of the MMC Founding Board are Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo General Manager, Wong Yang Yong, MalaysiaKini co-founder and MMC pro-tem committee chairman, Premesh Chandran, National Union of Journalists Malaysia Secretary-General, Teh Athira Yusof, Astro Awani Chief Editor, Ashwad Ismail, and Gerakan Media Merdeka President, Radzi Razak.
They are also joined by academician, Gayathri S. Venkiteswaran, Daily Express Chief Editor, Datuk Sardahthisa James, Malaysian Tamil Media Organisation President, Muthameez Manan, Mohd Azmyl Md Yusof, Celine Lim and Terence Ooi.
On February 26, the Malaysia Media Council (MMC) Bill was passed in the Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of Malaysia’s legislature.
Under the bill, Malaysian journalists and media workers will be empowered to set ethical standards for journalists and establish a code of conduct for the media.
