KUCHING: The Kelam Carbut Belia initiative organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth N6 Tupong has emerged as a high-impact platform aimed at strengthening inclusive community development, with a strong focus on youth and women empowerment.

More than just a trading event, the programme was designed to stimulate the local community economy by providing opportunities for micro-entrepreneurship, particularly among young women.

It also served as a grassroots learning platform that nurtures leadership skills, innovation and sustainable economic practices among youths.

PBB Youth N6 Tupong chief Mohamad Harith Ieman Sulhie said the initiative aligns with the state’s Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS2030), which emphasises sustainable, inclusive and competitive growth.

“The organisation of Kelam Carbut Belia reflects our commitment to supporting Sarawak’s long-term development agenda by empowering youths to be self-reliant and economically resilient.”

He added that the programme adopted a community-based economic and social entrepreneurship approach, encouraging participants to embrace digital transformation and sustainable business practices in response to evolving economic challenges.

A total of 33 vendors took part in the event, with organisers placing strong emphasis on the use of online payment systems to promote cashless transactions.

This move supports the state’s digitalisation aspirations while enhancing financial and technological literacy among small traders, especially youth entrepreneurs.

One of the highlights of the programme was the strong leadership shown by young women, who played key roles in both planning and execution.

The project was led by Deputy PBB Youth N6 Tupong chief Zulaikha Ibrahim, with support from Sharifah Nur Shaqeera Wan Jodan @ Wan Zaidi, who served as deputy project leader and treasurer.

Their involvement underscored the growing role of young women as capable leaders and agents of change within the community, reinforcing the agenda of women empowerment and gender equality in local development efforts.

The active participation of youth leaders and vendors demonstrated a positive shift towards inclusive economic participation at the grassroots level.

Simultaneously, it fosters a sense of ownership and collaboration within the community.

Overall, Kelam Carbut Belia stands as a symbol of the commitment of PBB Youth N6 Tupong to building a progressive and inclusive future.

This is in line with Sarawak’s broader development vision and the nation’s long-term goals.
