KOTA BHARU: Kelantan Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) director Azman Ismail died of colon cancer early today. He was 57.

Kelantan KPDN said his nephew Ahmad Danial Asyee Zakaria confirmed that Azman died at 2.40 am at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here.

“Funeral prayers will be held at Masjid Al-Baqi Mukim Mujur, Jelawat at 9 am before he is laid to rest at the Kampung Kuin Pasir Islamic cemetery in Jelawat, Bachok,” it said in a statement.

Azman is survived by his wife and five children. He had been placed in an induced coma for the past week due to complications from colon cancer and had been under hospital care for several months.

“His passing is a great loss to the KPDN, particularly in Kelantan. May his soul be blessed and his family be granted strength and fortitude in facing this difficult time,” it said.

Meanwhile, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) broadcast journalist Majidah Ismail, 49, said Azman was very approachable and often extended assistance during coverage of KPDN-related assignments.

“He was also involved in several programmes organised by the Kelantan Darul Naim Media Club and frequently shared his insights to ensure the success of such programmes, including the Kelantan Media Awards Night in 2023,” she said.
