LUNDU: The Kembara UKAS 2026 Demi Rakyat programme has set out on an approximately 1,750-kilometre communication tour across Sarawak’s coastal regions and key development sites.
Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), described the programme as a two-way platform connecting the government with grassroots communities.
Officially commencing today at Kilometer 0 in Telok Melano, Sematan, the programme aims not only to share information on government policies and initiatives but also to listen to local concerns and community needs.
“My hope is not just to disseminate government initiatives. Ideally, this programme can act as a bridge to identify existing issues.
“For instance, in Telok Melano, the community hopes for more attractive tourism spots, and perhaps Sematan Town can be further modernised,” he said during the officiating ceremony.
He added that issues highlighted during the tour include telecommunications coverage and monitoring the progress of coastal development projects.
Running from March 9 to 21, the tour is a strategic initiative to strengthen the delivery of Sarawak government policies and development projects to communities across the state.
The journey begins in Telok Melano and Tanjung Datu, concluding in Lawas, and will cover several coastal towns and significant development sites.
The programme aims to improve public understanding of state government policies and development agendas while reinforcing two-way engagement with local communities, particularly in rural areas.
A key focus of Kembara UKAS 2026 Demi Rakyat is to gather public feedback on the implementation of various government initiatives throughout Sarawak.
