KUCHING: The 4th Food and Craft Bazaar held today (Apr 26) at Telang Usan Hotel has brought together locals and visitors to celebrate Sarawak’s rich cultural diversity showcasing traditional Kenyah dishes, crafts, and performances.

Organised by the Persatuan Kebangsaan Kenyah Sarawak (PKKS), the event highlighted the artistry and culinary heritage of the Kenyah community where attendees enjoyed a range of indigenous foods and unique handcrafted items.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan,  who officiated at the event, emphasised the importance of Sarawak’s multicultural landscape and the role of food and craft in uniting its diverse communities.

“This bazaar is more than just a celebration of food and craft; it’s a powerful reminder of the strength of Sarawak’s heritage and the need to preserve our traditions,” Snowdan said.

He commended the bazaar for providing a platform for Sarawak’s indigenous communities to showcase their cultural traditions and talents.

“Food and craft are fundamental to our cultural identity. Events like this allow us to not only celebrate but also promote the beauty of our traditions to the world,” he added.

In support of the event and PKKS’s ongoing work, Snowdan pledged RM10,000 to help further the association’s efforts in preserving the Kenyah heritage.

“Supporting local organisations like PKKS is crucial to ensuring the sustainability of Sarawak’s cultural heritage,” he added.

He also called on both public and private sectors to collaborate in sustaining and promoting Sarawak’s cultural wealth.

“Our indigenous communities play an integral role in shaping Sarawak’s unique identity. We must work together to pass these traditions on to future generations,” he stressed.

He also encouraged Sarawakians to take pride in their cultural roots and share their heritage with the world. “Sarawak’s cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths. We must celebrate and preserve it, not only for ourselves but for future generations and for the world to appreciate.”
