KUCHING: The Kenyalang Slingshot Challenge 2025 has made history by being the first slingshot competition of its kind in Sarawak.

Held at Sarawak Plaza recently, the event brought together athletes from various districts, aiming to promote slingshot sports as a recognised discipline in the state.

Saratok District Council (MDS) member, Councillor Kasdi Pandi, officiated the prize presentation ceremony and expressed the event’s significance.

“The aim was to promote slingshot sports in the hope of increasing its popularity as a recognised sport in Sarawak.

“This competition served as a crucial step in raising the profile of slingshot sports in Sarawak. It not only encourages public participation but also unites people through a shared passion for this unique sport,” he said.

Organised by the Kenyalang Slingshot Group, the competition featured two categories: the 8-metre and 10-metre precision shooting events.

In the Men’s Precision Shooting category, Juan Subai claimed first place in both the 10-metre and 8-metre events. Norman Abdul Rahim and Brahim Banin placed second and third in the 10-metre event, while Mohd Azrul Jamil and Jamil Roslan secured second and third in the 8-metre category.

In the Women’s Precision Shooting category, Dayang Rogayah took home the championship title.

Councillor Kasdi expressed gratitude for the event’s success and encouraged greater participation in future slingshot competitions.

“We look forward to seeing more people join in and help foster a stronger community,” he added.

The event was supported by sponsors Rimbun Prima, Daya Utama, Perunding Muhandis, and HZ Resources.
With its successful debut, the Kenyalang Slingshot Challenge 2025 has paved the way for the future growth of slingshot sports in Sarawak.
