KUCHING: Sarawak is in the final stages of securing international intellectual property (IP) registration for its first-ever AI-powered chip, KETEQ.AI.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the chip, designed by Sarawak’s SMD Semiconductor, has been brought to the attention of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, ahead of its planned launch.

He asserted that chip technology is fundamental to any digital advancement, calling it the “main frame” of digital transformation.

“That will be the first in the world. I told the Prime Minister that once we have the IP registration, I want him to see it and launch it,” he said.

Abang Johari said this when officiating at the ‘Jelajah Malaysia Digital’ event at Tegas Digital Village here today.

First unveiled in April in Cardiff, Wales, KETEQ.AI was developed by a young Sarawakian and incorporates an AI-powered nano system designed to generate instant solutions.

He explained that the chip can process data and provide solutions in one-tenth of a second, whether in energy, automotive, or other sectors.

The Premier noted that the development was supported by the British Government, and carried out in a shared laboratory housing major firms like Siemens.

“We have our own Sarawak lab inside that facility. That’s where the design came from,” he added.

Abang Johari said the innovation mirrors the business model of global tech companies like Nvidia, which design chips but do not manufacture them.

“If this is the direction we’re taking, then Sarawak is truly on the global stage,” he affirmed.
