SIBU: The ‘Ketuk Sahur’ programme, which began last year as an initiative to foster closer ties among residents in the DUN Nangka constituency, returned this Ramadan with visits to 250 homes for sahur (pre-dawn meal), continuing to unite the community through charity and togetherness.

Organised in collaboration with the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and DUN Nangka service centre, the programme was led by Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who noted its role in strengthening communal harmony.

One of the most significant moments was having sahur at the home of KK (Village Head) Catherine, a Christian, marking the first time the meal was shared in a non-Muslim household.

“This is the first time we are having sahur in a non-Muslim home. However, in Sibu and Sarawak, this is not an issue because we are sharing this moment together.

“I would like to thank KK Catherine for her generosity and for joining the Muslim community for sahur today,” Dr Annuar said on Thursday (March 6).

The ‘Ketuk Sahur’ programme covered 10 locations across DUN Nangka, ensuring that 250 homes benefitted from the initiative.

The programme served multiple purposes, including providing aid to those in need and strengthening the collaboration between village committees.

“Firstly, it is to give charity during this blessed month to those in need. Secondly, it aims to strengthen cooperation among the JKKK in the villages. Most importantly, it is to foster unity among the community,” Dr Annuar said.

Beyond its charitable aspect, the programme also serve as an opportunity to assess local facilities and amenities, ensuring that any necessary improvements could be addressed.

“I use this visit to connect more closely with the community and to better understand their situation,” he added.
