MARVEL Studios President, Kevin Feige, has officially announced that a new ‘X-Men’ film is in development, with ‘Thunderbolts’ Director, Jake Schreier, set to take the reins.
The revelation came during a recent roundtable discussion promoting ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’.
Feige confirmed that the long-anticipated ‘X-Men’ project was now in the early stages of production, with a script currently in development.
The film is expected to be released following the conclusion of Marvel’s ongoing Multiverse Saga.
“We’re very, very lucky to have him and very excited to have him. And so, we’re beginning. It’s all starting now. The script’s underway,” Feige said, expressing his enthusiasm for the project.
Feige praised Schreier as a “talented and incredibly smart guy”, noting their positive collaboration on ‘Thunderbolts’.
“If you saw that movie, what he did with those character interactions… He also has his pulse on, shall we say, a younger demographic,” Feige remarked.
He emphasised that this sensibility will be crucial for the ‘X-Men’ reboot.
“He’s younger than me, for sure, but he’s tapped into that in a way that I think was important for ‘Thunderbolts’ – and much more important for ‘X-Men’.
Because ‘X-Men’, as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie,” he said.
This marks the first major ‘X-Men’ project under the Marvel Studios banner since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, which previously held the film rights to the franchise.
The last ‘X-Men’-related release was the 2020 spinoff ‘The New Mutants’, which premiered before Marvel regained creative control of the characters.
Further details, including casting and storyline specifics, have yet to be announced.
