KUCHING: The completion of Phase 2 restoration of the belian timber footbridge at Kampung Kudei Dungun now provides safer access for more than 500 residents.
Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the RM280,000 project spans 180 metres with a width of 1.2 metres.
“The appointed contractor carried out the work well and even completed the footbridge ahead of the scheduled timeline.
“So today (Jan 6), we witnessed the fully completed pedestrian walkway constructed entirely with belian timber,” he said after officiating the footbridge opening here.

He expressed gratitude that residents no longer need to worry about the condition of the footbridge, which has now been restored and is safer to use.
“Especially for children who need to use this route to go to school, parents no longer have to worry about the previous hazards.
“We expect this belian timber to last for 20 years, but we will continue to monitor and maintain it as needed for the comfort of the local community,” he added.
The project is a continuation of Phase 1, which involved the restoration of a 180-metre footbridge completed in 2023.
In total, both phases of the project cost RM530,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), covering a combined distance of 360 metres.
