KGS’ Joshua Lim sets pace in Junior Masters opening round

KUCHING: Kelab Golf Sarawak’s (KGS) Joshua Lim Zhi Xing emerged as the early standout at the OM-KGS Junior Masters Open Golf Championship, leading the Boys A category after a composed opening round at KGS today (April 17).

The Malaysian Golf Association’s National Junior Development Programme elite player posted a five-over-par 77 to establish a five-stroke lead over Vincent Chan Man Ping of Kelab Golf Miri (KGM).

Behind the early leader, Mohd Redzuan Abdullah Mohd Hilme of KGS sits in third place after returning a 90, followed by Aaron Sebastian Ting Sie Giat of Kelab Golf Sibu (92) and Sim Thin Shen of KGS (100) in fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Boys B category, Marcus Ting Zhong Sing set the pace with an 80 to lead AK Muhd Zaidan Pg Ahmad Zaki of Pantai Mentiri Golf Club and Muhammade Alghifary Zuhayr Mohd Sharif of Labuan Golf Club by one stroke.

KGS representatives, Sebastian Zane Fong Shan Zie and Jayden Png Jun Yen, had a 85 and 88 respectively to lie in fourth and fifth spots.

Meanwhile, Nur Fatim Syamimi Mohd Shafie of Labuan International Golf Club and Livia Lau Kiew Lin of Kelab Golf Miri share the lead for Girls A after both returned matching 87s.

They are closely followed by Lorelai Brenai Manjah of Kelab Darul Ehsan, who is one stroke back in third, while KGS juniors Myra Lisa Mohamad Norhadie (90) and Marissa Ho Xin Yin (98) occupy fourth and fifth positions.

Bernice Hwang Ee Xuan of Kelab Golf Bintulu commanded a 18-stroke lead in the four-player Girls B field when she returned a first round score of 81.

Chloe Nguang of KGS is second with 99, followed by Chyrsmi Chan Mam Man of KGM (100) and Zoey Ting Ning Xuan of KGB (103).

The three-day championship continues with the Group C and D boys and girls set to tee off in the second round on Saturday (April 18).

This year’s edition of the OM-KGS Junior Masters Open Golf Championship, sponsored by OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, has attracted 60 young golfers from Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan and Brunei.
