KUCHING: Sarawakian professional boxer Daeloniel “Kilat Boy” McDelon Bong is ready to step into the ring at the Johor International Boxing Championship tomorrow (Feb 16), carrying the hopes of his home state.
His father, San’ani Fauzi, expressed confidence in his son’s abilities, believing that Daeloniel’s performance will showcase Sarawak’s boxing potential at the highest level.
“The most important thing is, as a boxer, especially at his professional level, he can prove to us, the people of Sarawak and the leadership of Sarawak, that boxing can shine in our state,” he said.
San’ani, who will be by his son’s side throughout the championship, noted the hard work and dedication behind Daeloniel’s preparations.
“I see him training, InshaAllah. I’m not one to be overconfident, but I believe in him. His fight this time is not just about personal achievement—it’s about bringing pride to Sarawak,” he added.
Daeloniel will face Prince Andrew Laurio from the Philippines in his upcoming match.
“I support him, InshaAllah, and thank you to everyone who has supported Daeloniel so far and will continue to do so.
“Of course, as his supporter, I always pray and will continue to witness his success,” San’ani said.
Both Daeloniel and San’ani were met by reporters at the Kuching International Airport yesterday (Feb 14).
“I’ve seen my opponent fight on YouTube, but I don’t focus too much on that—anything can happen in the ring,” Daeloniel said.
He revealed that his training camp has been intense, with his diet and nutrition carefully monitored since his last fight at the Rentap Fighting Championship.
“One week after Rentap, I started my diet plan, and my nutritionist has been sending me regular reports.”Alhamdulillah, my weight is on track, and I feel full of energy,” he added.
San’ani, a strong supporter of his son’s boxing career, said he continues to advise him on discipline and consistency.
“I always remind him to stay disciplined, keep training, and maintain his fitness. Even after this fight, in the next two to three months, he must continue training and jogging.
“I will always support him,” he said.
As Daeloniel departed for Johor, he expressed gratitude to those backing his career, including the Sarawak State Government, Raya Khas, and Rentap Muay Thai.
“Besides my family, I will be accompanied by the team manager, teammates from Rentap Muay Thai, and a few sponsors.
“I would like to thank the State Government, Raya Khas, and Rentap Muay Thai for their support so far, starting from the beginning of 2025,” Daeloniel said.
